Cinnamon Buns!!

There’s something so warm and inviting about the smell of cinnamon buns in the oven. Freshly baked anything is the best, but, these ooey gooey delicious buns will melt in your mouth.

They aren’t complicated to make at all. In fact it’s rather simple. The only part that is time consuming is waiting for the dough to rise. But trust me - it’s well worth the wait!!

I like to use my mixer for this recipe and put the dough hook on and just let it do all the work. You can do it by hand for sure if you’d prefer that.



Dough -

1 cup warm plant based milk

1 TBSP instant dry yeast

2 TBSP sugar of choice

1 tsp salt

3 TBSP softened salted butter (I love earth balance)

1 TBSP ground flax mixed with 3 TBSP water (set aside for five minutes)

3 cups all purpose flour

Filling -

1/2 cup melted salted butter

1 cup brown sugar

2 TBSP ground cinnamon

Glaze -

1/2 cup vegan icing sugar (red path is vegan, the brand wholesome is organic as well)

1-3 TBSP plant based milk


  1. In the bowl of your mixer add in all the dough ingredients. With the dough hook attachment slowly mix the ingredients. Once they have become incorporated turn up the speed on your mixer. Dough should be tacky but not stick to your hands. If you need to add a bit more flour please do so. Mix for about 7 minutes.

  2. Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl. Cover with a tea towel and allow the dough to rise for about an hour - until it has doubled in size.

  3. Lightly grease a baking dish. Punch the dough down (this is my kids favourite part lol) and roll out to a 12 inch by 18 inch rectangle. *side note here: the thinner you can roll your dough the better! I also like to roll out the dough on top of a sheet of parchment paper.

  4. In a separate bowl: mix together the filling and then brush on top of the dough.

  5. Use a pizza cutter to slice even strips out of your dough - about one inch thick works best I find.

  6. Roll up each strip and place into your baking sheet.

  7. Cover your baking sheet with a tea towel and allow to sit and rise again for 45 minutes.

  8. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Remove the tea towel and place your baking sheet in the oven. Bake for about 15-20 minutes. Until the tops are just a touch golden brown.

  9. Once they're fully baked, remove from the oven and allow to cool in the pan for ten minutes.

  10. Mix together your glaze and drizzle it over the buns.
